OWOG Project

This week, I am full of anticipation.  In just a couple of hours, our team is going into one of the villages to conduct the first set of surveys with the women who will be participation in the OWOG expansion project.  All of our daily work is for these women, families, and communities, so to have the opportunity to personally go and learn more about who they are, how they live, and what they are contributing to the mission’s success is exciting.  Most of the data collected will help refine program details, add new women, and ‘officially document’ new programs/partnerships.  With the language barrier, I often don’t get to know the community members as well as I’d like to, so the surveys will also give me the chance to personally know the women a little better as we translate between English and Swahili.  Exciting!

On a lesser note (but worth mention), I’m pretty sure the rainy season is coming to an end.  I have enjoyed the rain, and especially the thunderstorms, but I’ve noticed less rain and much more sun this week!  On Monday at midday, the temperatures seemed to elevate above the 65-72F range, into the “hot” category.  The benefits of less rain include walking to work more often (when working at the school office), dry roads, sunny mornings, uninterrupted soccer practices, and going to the beach.  You can’t ask for better weather; Bukoba is like a Minnesota summer, all year long!
