Disoriented and Happy

At least a dozen times in the past week, I’ve forgotten I am in Tanzania.

A few days ago, I was reading a story in the world news which caused me think to myself, “Wow, I’m glad I am safe in the US-A-... Oh wait, I am NOT in the USA right now... but I am safe, thankfully!”

Then today, while on Facebook, I was admiring pictures a friend posted and thought, “They are at the Grand Canyon?? I keep meaning to plan a trip there!  I am just a few days’ drive away, I should drive ov-e-r-... WAIT- I AM NO WHERE NEAR the Grand Canyon right now.”

The disorientation I’ve been experiencing feels similar to a vivid dream that makes you think you’ve just been given a brand new car, but in the morning (confused and mildly disappointed) you find your old car waiting for you in the driveway...

Different than finding an old car in the driveway, I am not at all disappointed when I remember I’m in Tanzania.  It is wonderful to realize I am in the place I have longed to be for so long!  Living and working in Bukoba, Tanzania feels like a second home.  Something about being here is so natural and peaceful.  I know a major contributor to this is Mr. Smart Baitani’s excellent supervision and hospitality even while he is at his home in the USA- so thank you, Mr. Baitani!

I - for one - may be in the US, but I miss you!
So glad you're having fun & are safe!
