Institute for Environment and Development Sustainability

Wednesday evening, I accompanied Smart to a meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Muyungi at their home.  They were incredibly hospitable, greeting me with an abundance of kindness, warmth and a generous dinner.  I have been lucky to have excellent hosts at every turn the last two weeks.  It has helped me settle in well and feel at ease in a new culture.

Mrs. Muyungi went to school with Smart in Bukoba, so it was neat to see old friends getting along as they did.  If I have my facts correct, Mr. Muyungi works in the Vice President’s office as Assistant Director, responsible for Climate Change.  He travels often to many places.  He and his wife shared with Smart and me information about an Institute they recently opened, called the Institute for Environment and Development Sustainability.  Apparently the school has a fantastic view looking to Zanzibar.  Several times, both he and his wife mentioned how they love the beautiful view from their house in Bukoba, and from this school in Dar es Salaam.

The Institute hosts international volunteers to teach some of its curriculum.  Mr. Muyungi welcomes volunteers who would like to come.  Typically their volunteers are enrolled in a university & go for an internship, or they have just graduated from a university.  Hopefully, I will be able to drop by to see the Institute before we leave on Saturday.

I obviously filter out personal information others share with me (how would you like to be blogged about?), but they seemed to have no objections regarding this info, as they encourage volunteers to come.  So there it is, to those who would find this interesting!

They were so much fun, I'm glad I was able to meet them.
