Farewell, Dallas.
I was quite sentimental the last few months living in Dallas, TX. Unlike most individuals that face relocating because of a transfer or a career change, I had quite a bit of time to say “goodbye” to my home of the last 7 years. I figured it would be sad (which it was), but it was a lot of fun, too!
The most surprising goodbye came from my indoor soccer team. I happened to miss my last soccer game, and I was pretty sad I wouldn’t get to see the team before I left. However, Thursday evening while walking out to my car after work, I noticed from a distant my car windows looked curiously hot-pink. As I got closer, I realized someone had written ALL over my windows... Before I could make out what it said, I was ambushed by gobs of silly string! When I realized the perpetrators were my teammates out in the freezing cold at 10pm on a weeknight waiting to give me an awesome send-off, I admit I almost shed a few tears of gratitude. They also came bearing cards, gifts and flowers. THAT was a lot of fun :-).
It was also a lot of fun staying up until 3am every night trying to get our old apartment cleaned out..... Ok, that was not so fun, but the company was! It is way better having a roommate to suffer through those horrid nights together.
I was touched by the genuine support and encouragement of my friends, co-workers and church family in Dallas. Their efforts helped me calm my nerves and peacefully transition out of one season and into another.
